Chases Garage is pleased to announce Inside/Outside, a group exhibition of artists Tara Morin, Julianne Barrett, Mary Sweeney, Ned Roche, Bill Cass, and introducing Kristy Cavaretta and Ryan Laprise. Through mixed media, collage, hand-pulled prints, ceramic works and furniture Inside/Outside explores the contemporary home and the objects and experiences surrounding it.

This bright and bold autumn exhibit features abstract, illustrative and imaginative works from local and regional artists. Chases studio artist, Tara Morin depicts Maine dwellings and landscapes filtered through memory in her mixed media illustrations. In her dramatic collages, New Hampshire artist, Julianne Barrett creates an air of excitement and intrigue as figurative outlines emerge through screens of shapes and patterns. Pottery from local ceramicist, Mary Sweeney, mimics the earthy tones in the changing color of the season. Achieved through reduction, soda and wood-firing techniques, Sweeney’s functional, food-safe, oven-safe, dishwasher and microwave-safe stoneware adds handthrown and handbuilt personality to everyday tableware. Chases artist and co-owner Ned Roche’s ceramic animals seem to walk right out of folded slabs of clay. These amorphous Things take on the likes of llamas, giraffes, bears, anteaters, squirrels and the creatures from our dreams. Industrious and story-driven, Hillsborough, NH artist, Bill Cass’ one-of-a-kind, seven-layer lithograph sites bold color and illustrates allegorical symbols; a man, a bird, onlooking eyes, planetary forms, whirling black, blue and green clouds, layer after layer. Chases Garage is happy to introduce two local artists in this exhibit, Kristy Cavaretta and Ryan Laprise. Artist and designer, Kristy Cavaretta enjoys exploring the minutiae of domestic life in her sock studies through intaglio etching and monoprint. Taking inspiration from origami, industrial designer, Ryan Laprise deconstructs and reassembles found doors into seamless folded forms and translates and combines geometric forms into wire frame furniture.

Inside/Outside is on view at Chases Garage from September 19th through December 19th, 2015. The reception, free and open to the public, is on Saturday, October 17th from 4-8pm and will coincide with the Chases annual Open Studios starting at 11:00am and the opening of the Chases Store. Chases is located at 16 Main st, Route 1A, York, ME 03909
