Lowly Pencil Untitled Mixed Media 6"x6"x1" 2016

Side by Side Exhibition

May 14th - July 10th, 2016

Chases Garage presents Side By Side, an exhibit featuring hand-pulled prints and original two and three dimensional artwork from four “in-house” artists at Chases Garage. Home to a diverse community of artists working alongside each other,  Chases fosters motivation, competition, collaboration and support. Side By Side brings together the work and ideas of ceramicists, Dina Andretta and Meghan Samson and mixed-media artists Dylan Haigh and Lowly Pencil. Join us for some wine and cheese during the pre-show Friday, May 20th & our opening reception on Saturday, May 21st, 4:00-8:00pm both days here at Chases!

After years of collecting plants, Dina Andretta couldn't find the planters or containers she was looking for. A combination of her love for house plants and architecture reclaimed by plant life, her ceramic structures create a unique environment for plants to settle into. Meghan Samson’s whimsical and humorous ceramic sculptures explore self-portraiture and domesticity. A visual map of fingerprints and drips perform the nuances of self and emotion and echo her desire to express the physicality of her process. As a lament to the art school education he never received, Dylan Haigh celebrates shape, color and basic spacial relationships while exploring the strange and unwanted anxieties that keep him up late at night and jolt him awake in the morning. Lowly Pencil is an artist, archaeologist, and novice shaman. Scribbly line work, misplaced shadows, and confused perspective are powerful magic lost in childhood, used to depict the places and creatures that exist only in the spirit
