July 20 - September 14, 2019
Opening Reception: July 20, 2019
This body of work in printmaking, drawing and ceramic sculpture, produced over the past four years and ongoing, reflects my experience on both the ocean waves I surf, and the mountains that have captivated me as a visual image for over a dozen years. The constant in both is movement and change. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison and Tufts University/ School of the Museum of Fine Arts’ MFA program, I have exhibited work in a variety of media for over 30 years.
Mike Howat is a New Hampshire-based painter.
His work focuses on our relationship with the natural world, urbanization, and social isolation as explored through architecture and Americana.
Since 2016, Howat has taught at Kimball Jenkins, where he has worked to build a printmaking program and studio, expand existing drawing programs, and curate exhibitions featuring nationally recognized artists. He serves on its Arts Committee and is the current long-term artist-in-residence.
Howat has exhibited regionally since graduating from New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2014, working with Kelley Stelling Contemporary, Mill Brook Gallery & Sculpture Garden, Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, and here at Chases Garage.
He lives and works in Concord, NH.
