July 20 - September 14, 2019
Opening Reception: July 20, 2019
This body of work in printmaking, drawing and ceramic sculpture, produced over the past four years and ongoing, reflects my experience on both the ocean waves I surf, and the mountains that have captivated me as a visual image for over a dozen years. The constant in both is movement and change. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison and Tufts University/ School of the Museum of Fine Arts’ MFA program, I have exhibited work in a variety of media for over 30 years.
Mike Howat is a visual artist and graduate of New Hampshire Institute of Art. His work focuses on the implications of our increasing industrialized and sprawling urban environments, explored through painting, mixed media, etching, and graphite drawings.
While predominately focusing on the gallery scene, Howat has also participated in various commercial commissions, including a large-scaled mural painting for DYN Headquarters in downtown Manchester, and work for Eastern National, designing magnets and decals of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Abraham Lincoln currently sold in Washington D.C.
Since 2016, Howat has taught at Kimball Jenkins School of Art and is the current artist-in-residence and serves on the Arts Committee.
