Holly starts by simply drawing a line...
The surface of the paper is delicately marked with pen and ink or indented upon. The resulting drawings can be understood as experiments in challenging the definitions, and exploring the properties, of the drawn mark.
Her work is occupied with exploring the interaction between lines in a practice that deliberately avoids portrayal or representation, rather preferring illusion born from repetition, endurance and obsession.
However, despite the forms created or resemblances found, in perceiving the work, the viewer is encouraged to look and then look again, and see that the surfaces or shapes presented exist in reality as a collection of meticulously placed lines.
