    Come play with direct object printmaking and leave with a one of a kind bandana or tea towel of your own. We will use fruits and veggies to explore the wide range of shapes, marks and printmaking possibilities available in your own refrigerator. Students will leave with an array of hand-printed pieces that they have created from start to finish, and knowledge to continue printing on fabric at home.

    In this four hour workshop, participants will use pressed plants to create one of a kind botanical cyanotype prints. Students will learn the entire cyanotype process start to finish including: coating paper, composing imagery with provided flora, exposure, and development through both demonstration and hands-on experience. There will also be time for students to forage flora from the surrounding property. At the end of the workshop, students will leave with a variety of prints and skills to continue to print with this process at home.

    Interested in creating your own custom silkscreen underglaze transfers?

    In this one day workshop, students will learn how to coat silkscreens with light sensitive emulsion, burn, prep, register and print with underglaze. Students will create screens of their own hand-drawn illustrations or digital designs and print their own underglaze transfers on newsprint. A variety of transfer techniques with be demonstrated and discussed.

    Learn how to transfer black and white images onto leather hard clay in this one day, hands on workshop.

    Photo-Lithography is a simple way to transfer high resolution, b+w laser-printed images onto leather hard clay surfaces. This is a monotype process that utilizes gum arabic and ceramic “ink”. Erica will demonstrate the entire process start to finish. Students will then have the opportunity to transfer their own images onto leather hard clay. This process works best on white clay bodies with clear/translucent glazes, and is suitable for ^6 oxidation and ^10 reduction firings.

    Learn the basics of silkscreening in this comprehensive, hands-on introductory one day workshop. Turn your black-and-white (no grayscale) graphics into one color silkscreen prints using light-sensitive emulsion. Students will create screens of their own hand-drawn illustration or digital design and print on provided found paper, maps, photographs, colored paper, book pages, etc. Students will learn how to prep, register and print while gaining guided practice through mixing inks, burning emulsion, troubleshooting and experimenting.

    Come explore, experiment, and create in this four-hour Gelli Print Workshop. Decide on a color palette and theme, then cut stencils and make templates to utilize in creating your positive, negative, and ghost prints. Through surface manipulation and overprinting, artists will make a series of prints, responding spontaneously to color, images, and design.

  • Gelli Plates: Inspired by Nature w. Deloris White

    Create botanical prints inspired by nature using natural plants as well as hand-made stencils and stamps of your own design from a variety of materials. Learn a simple registration process and add depth and dimension by overprinting layering colors. Because of its ease in hand printing, Gelli printing encourages exploration and results in the creation of a series of prints in conversation with one another, united by colors, designs, repetition, and pattern.

  • Intaglio Etching w. Elise Morissette

    4 Week Session

    Mondays 6:00pm-9:00pm

    August 5th-August 26th

    This class focuses on the printmaking process of etching (intaglio), which is an art medium of carving/engraving into copper plates that are run through a printing press. This process explores layers of ink with techniques such as drypoint, burnishing, soft ground etching, and hard ground etching to manipulate your copper plates to play with value, texture and space.

  • Intro to Wheel Throwing w. Lindsey Howarth

    5 Week Session

    Mondays 10:00am-12:30pm

    August 5th-September 9th (no class Sept 2nd)

    Students registered in this course do not receive open studio time

    Come learn the fundamentals of throwing on the potter’s wheel with Lindsey Howarth! This class is perfect for those with little to no wheel throwing experience and is geared towards beginners. Students will learn the basics of centering, pulling up walls, shaping, and trimming simple forms such as cylinders, mugs, and bowls.

  • Color Block Printing w. Elise Morissette

    4 Week Session

    Thursdays 6:00pm-9:00pm

    August 1st- August 22nd

    Explore linoleum printing in color for this 4 week class! Color printing is bright and vibrant, and a great way to explore printing more in depth. This course will specifically explore “puzzle-piece” block printing and gradient rolls. Elise will demonstrate how to transfer designs onto blocks, different carving techniques, and how to successfully make a colored print.

Adults (18 or older) may register for classes & workshops at Chases Garage. WE DO NOT OFFER CLASSES FOR CHILDREN/TEENS.

Chases reserves the right to cancel courses, substitute instructors, change course times, and limit enrollment. The student agrees to abide by any and all rules and policies of the studios. Chases will assume no responsibility for any loss, personal or physical. With enrollment, a student consents to being photographed in classes (unless we informed in writing). These photographs may be used by Chases in future promotional efforts without specific written permission from the student.

CLASS WITHDRAWAL & REFUND POLICY

100% Refund (minus processing fee): Student must withdraw at least 6 business days prior to the start of the class.

50% Refund (minus processing fee): Issued when a student withdraws 5 business days or less from the start of the class.

NO REFUNDS ARE GIVEN ONCE A CLASS BEGINS.

If Chases cancels a course, registered students will be notified and all fees will be refunded in full. Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements will be canceled, typically two to four business days before the class begins.

50% refund (minus processing fee) if you withdraw 7 business days before the workshop date.

We are unable to refund you if you withdraw from the workshop less than 6 business days before the workshop date.
